UPCOMING EVENTS

SEE YOU IN MAY!

Now that Halloween has come and gone, our 2007 sailing season has come to an end. We’ll be back on Memorial Day weekend, and we’re already looking forward to another spectacular season on Salem Sound!

It’s never too early to schedule charters and reserve camp space, so feel free to contact us at any point during the winter.

CAMP SESSIONS

If you’re already planning for next summer, our 2008 camp sessions will be as follows:

July 7-11 — Ages 8-12, 9:00-2:00
July 14-18 — Ages 8-12, 9:00-3:30
August 4-8 — Ages 8-12, 9:00-3:30
August 18-22 — Ages 10-14, 9:00-3:30

Note that the camp day for the first session is over at 2:00 PM while the other three sessions run to 3:30. This is in response to parent feedback asking for a longer camp day. The price for the shorter session (which is recommended for younger campers and first-timers) remains $350 per camper. The price for the three longer sessions is $395 per camper.

MARITIME LECTURE SERIES

In partnership with the National Park Service and their vessel FRIENDSHIP, FAME hosts a free monthly maritime lecture series in Salem.

Our scheduled lectures this winter will take place on December 5, and February 6. In December, we’ll hear from Paul Brawley of the Ernestina Foundation as he discusses plans to return this historic vessel to active sailing. In February we will host Jonathan Harley of ASTA, who will fill us in on SailBoston 2009 as the Tall Ships return to the East Coast.

The lectures take place at 7 p.m., at St. Joseph Hall, 160 Derby St., Salem. They are free, and the Hall is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 978-729-7600 or 978-740-1660.

ABOUT FAME

FAME is a replica of a successful Salem privateer schooner from the War of 1812. The original FAME was one of the first American privateers to put to sea during the War of 1812 and arguably the first to bring back a prize. She captured at least 21 vessels before being lost in the Bay of Fundy in 1814.

Our FAME was built in Essex, Massachusetts by Harold Burnham. She was launched on June 14, 2003. She is now based at Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem, from which she sails up to three times daily on cruises upon historic Salem Sound.
